Count me in for continued discussions to help make this a reality.

The only thing this party lacks appears to be a membership! Perhaps I should reach out to whoever’s in charge over there and see what their plans for the future are.

Ooo! I JUST saw this on Facebook today! Good article. I’d love to have Gov. Brownback on board. I’ll have my spies try to flag down his much more sophisticated and talented spies.

Oh, I can agree that the climate is changing quite easily. What I’m tired of hearing is the apocalyptic version. “If we don’t do X, then we’re going to have climate refugees by Y.” Despite the fact those refugees have yet to materialize.

Perhaps I need to draw a distinction between stronger and weaker forms of the claim, “Climate change is a myth.”

If someone says this, and means, “I do not believe that we can reliably predict, with any precision, the overall long-term impact of increasing atmospheric CO2 levels, using existing mathematics and climate models,” then I think that’s not just reasonable, but I’m on board with it.

But all too often I encounter Republican voters — and Republican politicians — who say this, and mean, “I do not believe the climate is undergoing any significant change at all.” This, if you’ll pardon my strong language, is clearly bunk, in my opinion.

There’s a spectrum of opinions in the middle, of course, where we might, for example, agree that climate change is happening but doubt that it’s primarily human-caused. These are discussions worth having, and the truth is I am not well enough informed on climate issues to have a strong opinion.

On the larger point: thanks!

–James

There are many solid summary reports on the impact, mechanisms behind, and understanding of climate change.

The mountain of evidence is there, and only grows as we study it further. If you find the idea that one model predicted 2.1 C° instead of an observed 1.9 C° is one that invalidates the entire body of study, then I suggest you take a closer look at what you believe science as a process and as a way of understanding nature is.

And no, a series of failed climate models does not count as evidence.

Otherwise, very interesting.

But it’s hard to change the name/brand. So ideally you want to choose a name which reflects your two principles, such that if the party ever drifts away from them, the hypocrisy can’t be hidden and the whole thing becomes a parody of itself and dies a deserved death.

Some ideas in that spirit, but I’m sure there are much better ones:

the People First Party
Family and Freedom
Life and Liberty
