So, Cruz has done this kind of thing before?

“I’ve end up spending more time defending Trump than criticizing him simply because of how extreme and irrational the reactions have been. It’s annoying because I’m actually wary of Trump.”

To put on my tumblr hat for a minute:

SO MUCH THIS. GAH. I was almost grateful for that nonsense about crowd size, so I could get out and re-establish my anti-Trump bona fides simply by siding with reality.

“Also, what do you think of Cruz’s decision to remove himself from the Supreme Court list?”

Idiotic. It’s like if someone offers you a billion dollars, or a ticket for a 1-in-1,000 chance for ten billion dollars. *Take the billion.* 1 in 1000 may be an overstatement of Cruz’s odds at the presidency right now. Everything has to go perfectly for him the next few years — and his star is now tied to Trump in a way that is very perilous to his branding.

But that’s always been Cruz’s biggest problem, hasn’t it? He doesn’t know how to take “yes” for an answer.

“So, what are your thoughts on Trump’s first couple of actions as President?”

So far, so good! He also reinstated the Mexico City Policy this morning. This is strange to say, and I reiterate that I doubt it will last, but, so far (two executive orders and a couple Senate confirmations in), this presidency is going swimmingly. –James

It’s weird, but you’re right.

So, what are your thoughts on Trump’s first couple of actions as President? So far, there was Matthis being given a waiver, an executive order to freeze Obamacare, and a couple of speeches. So far, not much but not bad either.

Also, what do you think of Cruz’s decision to remove himself from the Supreme Court list? I fear that was an unwise decision.

So far, my biggest issue is all of my Facebook friends and acquaintances overreacting to Trump and his win. I’ve end up spending more time defending Trump than criticizing him simply because of how extreme and irrational the reactions have been. It’s annoying because I’m actually wary of Trump.

I didn’t like Trump’s speech, and I don’t like Donald Trump. I agree that we don’t have enough fingers to count off all the ways that he might be a disaster. All day yesterday, though, I kept taking my internal temperature and realizing that I, too, felt pretty much okay. Mostly I kept reminding myself yesterday that whatever my reaction to Trump is, my relief that I didn’t wake up today to President Clinton is (to coin a phrase) “huge.” As I pointed out a while back on FB, Trump is the closest we have to a human Ferengi, which is not good. Hillary, however, is the closest we have to the Borg Queen, which is much, much worse. I would prefer not to have an evil President. But if my choice is an evil buffoon versus an evil power-player/insider, I will take the buffoon.

The Trump hysteria that everyone is pumping is honestly one of the funnier things I’ve ever seen. I don’t think that any of it is entirely unwarranted, especially coming from traditional conservatives like yourself, who can see Trump more accurately than most.

But vague American Nationalism can work. I wish we lived in a society where we didn’t need to be dependent on the government, we didn’t secretly crave for a king and we didn’t have a void where God used to be in our collective soul. But we do and so Donald Trump is a man for our times. A vain, bombastic leader that can try at least to hearken back to America’s past, which was Libertarian and Christian. Now I don’t know if America even wants to save itself, but at the very least, we are going to get to see if they try.
