Unfortunately, my sense of British public opinion is that they are horrifyingly indifferent to all this. Even the Catholic bishops in the UK don’t seem able to come out and say that Alfie shouldn’t be held prisoner! And so the rest of the world stares on in slack-jawed horror, and I cross the UK off my list of “places I could ever see myself living.”
